15 Minutes Away on Foot: Take in a Show at the Historic Savannah Theatre

June 27, 2011

This week, we highlight the historic Savannah Theatre located on Chippewa Square, at the intersection of Bull Street and East McDonough Street. The physical address of the Historic Savannah Theatre is 222 Bull Street.

The theatre first opened in 1818, making it one of the nation’s oldest continually operating theatres. The building has undergone a number of alterations over the years – some due to fires, others to update the theatre to modern trends and advances in theatrical technology. The theatre, as it stands today, was restored in 2002 to its appearance in the 1940s – while blending in all the modern conveniences and up-to-date technology to make the theatrical experience the most enjoyable for actors, stage hands, orchestra members, theatre staff, and of course, the audience.

The historic Savannah Theatre is the city’s only fully professional theatre. The troupe that performs and produces the various shows throughout the year are all phenomenal. Shows at the theatre include a number of musical reviews, the occasional full fledged musical, and an annual holiday show. For a current schedule of upcoming shows, visit: http://www.savannahtheatre.com/shows/

Performances at the Savannah Theatre are held primarily on Wednesdays – Sundays, with multiple shows on Saturdays. Shows at the Historic Savannah Theatre are often one of the most unexpected highlights of our guest’s time in Savannah.

Getting to the historic Savannah Theatre from the Catherine Ward House Inn by foot is easy. From door to door, it takes as little as 10-14 minutes to walk between the two.
