15 Minutes Away on Foot: Grab a Bite at the Harris Baking Company

June 20, 2011

This week, we highlight the Harris Baking Company, located at 102 East Liberty Street, in the historic Drayton Tower building. The shop’s actual location in Drayton Tower is just north of the intersection of Drayton and East Liberty Streets. Access to the shop is off of Drayton Street.

The Harris Baking Company is an artisan bread and pastry cafe, with some fabulous “extras.” Seating is primarily available indoors, with a couple of tables along the sidewalk. This is not a “white table cloth” cafe – interior tables and chairs are stainless steel with rustic natural centerpieces. While you are welcome to sit and enjoy your food in house, many local patrons stop into the cafe to order their food (or pick up freshly baked bread) and go.

Open for breakfast and lunch, with treats available almost the entire day. Some of our favorites include the mini pecan pie tart, the crab and seafood bisque, and a really fabulous chocolate mousse torte. The fresh breads are also a big hit with us.

The Harris Baking Company is open Tues – Sunday. Tues – Saturday hours from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and Sundays 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. A word of caution – the Panini grill is not available 30 minutes prior to closing.

Getting to the Harris Baking Company from the Catherine Ward House Inn by foot is very easy. From door to door, it takes as little as 10-14 minutes to walk between the two.
